Ok, I’m all for taking steps to help preserve the environment and trying to live a eco-conscious life, but I recently learned of a product that I have a hard time getting my head around. A reusable menstrual pad from Stella Pads.
Ladies, I’m asking you directly. Is this really a good idea? Would you go through the trouble it takes to use this product? Read the care instructions from their website:
Care Instructions:
Please wash prior to use. Rinse pads with cold water as soon as possible after use. Either store pads in a dry pail, or a pail full of water, changing the water daily until laundry day (you can add a little detergent if you wish). Wash in hot or cold water with a basic detergent without fabric softener. Pads with PUL can be both washed and dried on high heat.
Your comments and opinions are greatly appreciated.

Mama pads don’t seem that extreme to me. For hundreds of years women have used cloth for their menstrual needs. Disposable sanitary supplies are a pretty recent development.
There are other choices, however, if cloth pads freak you out… organic unbleached cotton supplies or menstrual cups like the Diva…

It just seems like a lot of work in this “disposable” age.

hmm no I would not want to use something like that in a age where we can just buy more lol. Cotton etc.. is bi degradable, the manufacturers need to also replace the plastics that come along with the disposable, just make it more environmental friendly?
Not all women have a monthly cycle that would even support using something like what’s on that picture. Some women that’s all they need.
I dunno I think it looks pretty, but for some strange reason I don’t think pads and tampons are killing this planet.

It’s a great idea! I’ve been using reusable pads for 3 years now and I love them.. rinsing them and putting them in a pail is really no big deal. you just put them in the laundry with your clothes and you have a new stack for your next period. I used to spend about $5-$10 a month on disposable pads but with reusable ones i’ve spent about $250 and they’ll last for probably 10 years (that makes it about $2.00 a month over 10 years). On top of that, I’m not creating more garbage. Oh, and with cloth pads you don’t make crinkly sounds while you’re changing your pad in a public washroom (i used to be worried about that).
