He-Woman Man-Haters Clubs?

Hey there, thanks for coming back to OneEyedView! If you find our site enjoyable, please share with your friends, or give us some social bookmarking love;)

I came across a website today called Don’t Date Him Girl that lists men’s names and photos in order for would-be daters to avoid them. I had heard of websites like this some years ago, but never gave them much thought until today.

One one hand, I think it’s great that such a place exists to warn people of someone who might be violent or have a history of legal wrong-doings. On the other hand, is it fair (or legal) to post such opinions in a public forum without offering any tangible proof? Why is this not considered libel; and is anyone getting sued?

Definition of Libel:

Tort consisting of a false, malicious, unprivileged publication aiming to defame a living person or to mar the memory of one dead. Printed or written material, signs or pictures that tend to expose a person to public scorn, hatred, contempt or ridicule may be considered libelous. See also Slander.

U.S. Supreme Court:

The law of libel has a long, often bewildering, history. In almost any era, the legal literature contains numerous complaints about the irrationality, complexity, and venality of libel law. The Supreme Court’s direct involvement with the law of libel, which began only in 1964 with New York Times Co. v. Sullivan, extended this legacy of confusion.

I’m still confused, how about you?

I assumed that because there were websites to warn women of men; there must be websites dedicated to the opposite, warning men of women. After a quick search I came across a website called Don’t Date Her Man. Ah ha, so all is fair in love and war right? Not so fast. It seems this web address is a front for the Don’t Date Him Girl website.

I’d love to hear your opinions on this subject, or be notified of other websites that offer similar services. Is this legal? Is it ethical?

Maybe you just don’t care and want to go shopping?
