Pacific Ocean Plastic GarbageI heard a disturbing report about plastic garbage in the Pacific Ocean, and once I started researching this further, I was both appalled and ashamed of my race, the human race. I’m not an environmental extremist, but c’mon people! (myself included).

  1. The plastic bag facilitates our life, however, it pollute the earth. The creators of plastics never knew this.

  2. It’s called the North Pacific Gyre. Terrible isn’t it? The size and amount of plastic garbage astounded me when I did my research for an article about plastic pollution – The Convenient But Deadly Plastic Bag – over at Third Rock From The sun.

  3. Researchers find plastic in the distant places of the world. Not only on remote pacific islands, but also interior jungles where they have to speculate how it got there. One idea is that it floats down rivers and then is carried by birds away from the waterways. Another idea is that the small pieces get caught up in storms that come on shore and deposited up in the coastal mountain ranges of western South America and some pacific islands.

I have written about the health dangers associated with plastics. One such article can be found here: http://willtaft.com/health/study-says-plastic-may-endanger-our-health-after-all/

  4. I saw a bit on the Discovery Channel the other day, where they scooped up the foam in a net in the Gulf Of Mexico, over a hundred miles off-shore from New Orleans: full of plastic items.
    Insane.
Now that we are producing so much corn for bio-fuel, and we have a way to make bio-degrading plastic substitutes out of corn by-products, why aren’t we using this instead of plastics made from petroleum products? Oh, what a world!
